I’m a huge metal fan, so redesigning the look for a music festival focused on the genre was a lot of fun. The original design had some good elements and really spoke to the intense attitude of heavy metal, but I found parts of the branding to too busy and lacking in cohesion. I felt the design needed to be simplified so it didn’t distract from what’s important, the bands at the festival. I reduced the color scheme and used made a hand done, type based logo for the festival. I kept my favorite part of their original branding (the horned skeleton mascot) and let that drive much of the imagery for the rest of the brand.
