Hyperion

Another science fiction book jacket, Hyperion features a powerful monster as the main antagonist. It became known as the Shrike given how it will impale its victims on a giant chrome tree. The name comes from a real bird that will impale its prey on any spike it can find, such as plant spines or barbed wire. For the cover illustration I replaced the monstrous Shrike with its avian namesake, showing it eating a naked human impaled on a chrome spike.
